SALAZARIA, AN ORIGINAL BUTTERFLY FROM RIOSUCIO


JULIAN ADOLFO SALAZAR ESCOBAR




Notable lepidopterology precursor in Colombia, naturalist and Veterinarian, was born in Riosucio, Caldas. He attended elementary and high school, in school José M. Restrepo Maya and Institute Manizales, respectively. He graduated from the University of Caldas in 1987, currently ahead graduate studies in Biology Sciences. His field of expertise was the taxonomy, entomology, lepidopterology, ecology, conservation of wilderness and of course Veterinary Medicine. He is an outstanding figure of national entomology, committed to scientific cause, a person who has given to the country many discoveries of new some typical species, some of the  Riosucio’s municipality and unique in the world such as butterflies: Mesene ingrumaensis and Salazaria,  valuable contributions in addition to its more than 100 publications throughout his life.

He develops wildlife research, species monitoring, community development and environmental impact. Since 1993 he has been linked to the University of Caldas (Manizales) and curator of the Museum of Natural History and Science Bulletin editor of Museum Center.
