The first inhabitants of this community learned to work the ceramic or pottery and this was the center of the economy for them, almost all the ingenious is used to make mud’s implements for cooking as pans, casseroles, plates and they also invented figures as: chickens, pigs, calabazos, money box, oil lamp, large jars and vases. The ceramic vessels were elaborated to domestic activities like to cook foods as: mazamorra, sancochos, frijoles, tamales, arepas and to ferment the “chicha” used to animate the festivities and social gatherings of old people in which they recreated the myths and legends, furthermore, the historic facts of our country, the same for the region’s personages.

At the present time, the ceramics in Portachuelo´s community have been worked though with less intensity that before, but even it is an economic activity and model of culture.
