AREA: ENGLISH GRADE:
TEACHER: Elizabeth
Cardona Vargas
NAME:
The ceramic of my region:
Mud was an element that the indigenous utilized for doing many figures
and pots. In past time, a mine of mud was discovered in the community of Portachuelo,
a place located in one of the four indigenous reservations of Riosucio Caldas. It
is Cañamomo and Lomaprieta.
The first inhabitants of this community learned to work the ceramic or
pottery and this was the center of the economy for them, almost all the
ingenious is used to make mud’s implements for cooking as pans, casseroles,
plates and they also invented figures as: chickens, pigs, calabazos, money box,
oil lamp, large jars and vases. The ceramic vessels were elaborated to domestic
activities like to cook foods as: mazamorra, sancochos, frijoles, tamales,
arepas and to ferment the “chicha” used to animate the festivities and social
gatherings of old people in which they recreated the myths and legends,
furthermore, the historic facts of our country, the same for the region’s
personages.
At the present time, the ceramics in Portachuelo´s community have been
worked though with less intensity that before, but even it is an economic
activity and model of culture.
The women that work the mud are called “Ollanderas”, they have inspired
some dances and the main festivity of Portachelo “La fiesta de la olla” which
is celebrated each year.
THE POT’S FESTIVITY
It was born in the year of 1966 in a meeting that was proposed by Simeón
Romero and Francisco Aricapa, looking for diversion to children. The first festivity
was directed by Juan de la Cruz Hernández ,
Luis Estanislao Largo, Simeón Romero and Francisco Aricapa. Then the work of
mud was emphasized as a recognizing to this ancestral labour in the community.
This cultural
activity has had outstanding representants as: Ana Tulia Guerrero, Fidelia
Hernández, Maria Nieves Hernández, Fidelia Vargas, Luis Ángel Guerrero,
Candelaria and Gregoria Hernández, Anadelia Hernández, Angela Vargas, Natividad
Guerrero, Graciela and Radiela Ladino.
Mud’s Process

2. This is put to dry until it stays well toasted.
3. After of this, a portion is put into an ‘estopa’ and a person walks on
it with a handle until it stays dust.
4. After, on strains the dust with a colander.
5. This toast is thrown in a receptacle and water is added until it is
manageable.
6. Next, people can make what they want with this: pans, casseroles, pots,
etc.
7. When the objects are ready, on lays them put at the sun until they became
harder.
8. Then, on scrapes earth with a knife in to the ‘callanas’ interior part,
a little of water is added too until to get a liquid substance that is spread
in order to seal them.
9. After this, they are exposed at the sun.
